Instead of living with a boring, drab bedroom, why not remodel. You can choose from a full remodel to simply giving your bedroom a beautiful facelift. Start by determining your budget, specific ideas, and the amount of time you have to dedicate to the project. For example, if you want to remodel your bedroom during a week long vacation, you may be more limited to what can be done than if you had no time limit. Another consideration relates to who will be doing the work. If you are hiring a professional, then you will need to weigh things out differently than if you were doing the work alone.

If you want to give your bedroom a fresh, new look, start with different fabrics, textures, colors, and patterns. For a simple remodel job, changing out a bed comforter, window treatment, and artwork can change the entire appearance of the room. When working with fabrics, just remember to scale the printed fabrics. Picture frames can also make a huge difference. If you currently have a country style bedroom where your pictures are framed in ornate wooden frames, by changing the frames to black, wood, or clear, you can bring a contemporary look to your room. Perhaps you want a bedroom that is more masculine with a French flair. Using oversized gold frames will help with this decor.

Consider adding pillows to your bed and chair or changing out the covers of the pillows you already have. If your pillows have lots of flowers and ruffles, you can remove the ruffles and sew an easy slipcover, completely changing the appearance. Valances and cornices are also excellent when remodeling your bedroom. Rather than use fabric the same design as the curtain panels, bedspread or duvet, use fabrics and patterns with the same color scheme but that is coordinating, not matching.

Even existing furniture can be used for your remodeling job. If you have a dresser and headboard that are built solid but not the best looking furniture in the house, try stripping them and giving them a nice antique look. One style of decor that continues to be popular is Shabby Chic. In this case, you would strip the furniture, sand it smooth, prime, and then paint. Using a fine piece of sandpaper, you would sand off some of the pain on the top, front, and legs, giving it a distressed look.

If your room can accommodate it, have a window seat built. This creates a cozy place to relax with a favorite book. You can make one easier than you think by making a frame out of 2x4s. Screw the back part of the frame into wall studs just below your window. Next, for the seat, you will screw a piece of plywood and skirt onto the 2x4s. Once the frame is complete, sand it, prime, and paint your favorite color. For the cushioned seat, you can buy foam at any craft, hobby, or fabric store. Choose material that will compliment the decor in your room and then for accents, make a few throw pillows of accenting colors or patterns.
